🚨This is indeed a case in prediction markets that warrants caution, and I’ve figured it out— Polymarket’s hybrid architecture has an inherent bug: the off‑chain state and the on‑chain state can never stay perfectly in sync forever. The attacker used only an automated script, costing less than $0.1 in gas, about 50 seconds per cycle. The attack method— 1⃣ First place an order via the API normally, allowing the off‑chain system to confirm the match; 2⃣ Almost simultaneously, use higher gas to drain the wallet funds on‑chain, causing settlement to fail; 3⃣ The system then forcibly removes all market‑maker orders that participated in this match from the order book, artificially creating a market vacuum. This lets the attacker earn two kinds of profit: 1⃣ After repeatedly clearing, they can post extremely wide spreads in the artificially created vacuum; other users who need to trade urgently are forced to take that price. 2⃣ They trick market‑making bots into mis‑executing trades and automatically hedging, then roll back to expose the opponent’s unilateral position, after which the attacker can push the price or take opposite trades to harvest consistently. So far no large‑scale attacks have occurred; if they did, the order‑book depth would contract systematically, ultimately harming the platform’s moat. If the architecture cannot be changed, is it possible to introduce failure penalties or match‑making margin requirements? @Polymarket
