Clarity 5 and Epoch 3.4 proposal is now open for public comment on the Stacks Forum. Simply put: Clarity is the language that runs smart contracts on Stacks with Bitcoin-level safety. This upgrade doesn’t add flashy new features it focuses on fixing known issues cleanly. The development of fully self-custodial sBTC is one of the most important R&D priorities at Stacks right now and is progressing rapidly. Simply put: Most wrapped BTC on other chains relies on intermediaries (federations or signer groups) that hold the real Bitcoin for you. There’s always that “trust someone else” risk. Stacks is solving this at the root. sBTC Self-custody research aims to let users keep their BTC fully on Bitcoin L1 in their own wallet, while still being able to unilaterally withdraw sBTC back to BTC anytime no middlemen, 100% self-custody. You get to use it freely for DeFi, payments, and staking on Stacks without giving up control. On top of that, they’re developing Bitcoin Post-Conditions. I just checked the Stacks core GitHub and the WASM development for Clarity is in full swing right now. Simply explained: Clarity is the smart contract language that runs with Bitcoin-level security. It has always been very safe and predictable, but speed was a bit limited. The clar2wasm compiler changes that — it turns Clarity code into WebAssembly (WASM) and aims for at least 10x faster execution. This means much higher transaction throughput, lower gas fees, and the ability to run complex dApps and AI agents smoothly. I've been watching @x402stacks very closely, and they're super active right now. @x402stacks is building the Stacks version of x402 the new internet-native payment standard that lets anyone (especially AI agents) automatically pay tiny amounts for exactly what they use on the web. Simply explained: Right now, using websites or AI services means complicated sign-ups, subscriptions, or credit cards. x402 changes everything. When you (or an AI) request a page or API, the server automatically says “pay just a few cents to see this”, you pay instantly with STX or sBTC, and get instant access. Stacks (STX) might be interesting. It gave me one of the easiest 8X of this cycle. This cycle has surpassed the 2022 ATH, which is not a small thing in this market. Applications and smart contract layer on the Bitcoin network… Honestly why not? 🤷‍♂️ If the project survives and continues development, the next cycle could be very interesting to watch
