How did DEXs look before Uniswap existed? The first DEX was called @EtherDelta, launched in 2014. It was very similar to the orderbook exchanges we see now(CLOB), > Place a bid. Although @Bancor launched the AMM model first but required one side of the liquidity to be $BNT. Uniswap simplied it a lot with two tokens in a pool. Their product stays constant. The ratio between them sets the price. Buy one, the other gets more expensive. Every trade rebalances automatically. Just you and a smart contract. Hayden built a demo. Showed it at a developer conference. Got a $65,000 grant from the @ethereumfndn. While other projects were raising $50–150 million in the ICO craze, Hayden launched with a grant and open source code. The entire DeFi ecosystem runs on the AMM model built by a laid-off mechanical engineer who had never touched Solidity six months earlier. One Reddit post. One formula. One unemployed engineer. That's how decentralized trading was invented.
