    this is a very underrated but important point AI accelerates the surveillance state why? well, your financial history can be thought of as loosely unstructured patchworks of data small transactions, large transactions, card payments, where you spend, when you spend, spending patterns, your credit score, credit, debit, debt history, trading history, etc today, this is hard to analyse at scale because i) there are many different data formats with varying sources and consistencies and almost any model or algorithm applied to it will be lossy, ii) there is a LOT of aggregate data with the exception of maybe Palantir, no one really has the will or skill to analyse this consistently but AI's superpower is in working with unstructured data at scale this is really the main thing AI changes. before computers were experts at structured data, now they are also experts at unstructured data which means: those who have this data — your banks your exchanges, your government — can now understand almost everything about you with little effort worse, they can combine this with other pieces of non-financial data like your messages, your social media posture, your location etc and add control chokepoints based on this put differently, whatever you do online can and will be used against you you have no upside to sharing this data. zero. do not do it voluntarily use good wallet hygiene, do not rely on CEXes for anonymity, and encrypt your money

    AI is the architecture of surveillance. Encryption is the architecture of sovereignty. The old surveillance state had a bottleneck that was humans. That bottleneck is gone. AI perfects surveillance. Every piece of data can now be read, categorized, flagged, and acted on, instantly, at population scale, at very little marginal cost. Progress in AI makes bureaucratic incompetence obsolete and leaves you no place to hide. Except one place. If the data is never published in the first place. Encryption restores the natural order of privacy that civilization requires to function. Let there be no data to see. The most powerful surveillance engine ever built is useless against data that does not exist. You cannot centrally plan an economy you cannot surveil. You cannot seize what you cannot see. This is why encrypted money at planetary scale is the machinery of freedom. Zcash.

    @zooko The whole point is anonymity. Coin holders vote with their funds. Elections use secret ballots for a reason. Expecting holders to disclose how much ZEC they voted with and justify their vote is completely losing the plot.
