There seems to be a lot of "influencers" in this space trying to twist @brian_armstrong & @coinbase's move to rescind their support of the CLARITY Act. We are hearing talks about how they dropped support because it would essentially kill a big piece of Coinbase's business. Although sure it would harm the success of their business model around stablecoin yield, it also does a lot more damage beyond CEXes. I don't care about centralized exchanges, I want to make that point known. I have utilized DEXes and cold storage for years to the point where I barely touch CEXes outside of buying assets to send to cold storage wallets. This bill harms the DeFi space including DEXes in ways most aren't explaining, so let me. 1. DeFi protocols and even front facing apps could be regulated as intermediaries which is just not possible especially for decentralized apps like Uniswap. 2. Stablecoin yields and rewards being slashed, which is a core yield creation for not just exchange products but for DeFi itself. This would harm DeFi more than you can imagine. 3. The bill includes vague definitions regarding DeFi which could weaken not strengthen decentralization aspects in crypto. 4. The bill also expands compliance and AML oversight on all DLT layers including DeFi related layers. Let me ask you again, how can dApps comply with AML oversight? They can't, which could lead to dApps getting killed i.e. DEX products. 5. Implementing risk and hold standards for DeFi as well welcoming in complete overreach on DeFi related products, assets & wallets. 6. All future DeFi related apps and/or products requires indepth reviews including compliance checks now, which is a huge hurdle going forward. This entirely slows innovation and is yet another bottleneck for the DeFi sector. Anyone that is targeting Brian and/or Coinbase essentially saying that they should support this bill because all these other CEOs/companies support the bill, is clearly missing the glaring issues with this bill. Do we really want regulations that bad to the point where we are succumbing to the banker's demands? We really need to think about how important this moment is not just for the short-term success of crypto, but the long-term success too.
