We’re not talking about $20M or $200M, this is $20B 🤯 A few numbers that also stood out to me from the latest Chainalysis report: > Total prediction market volume reached $20B from January 2026 through the end of the tournament. Around $5.7B of that volume was generated during the five weeks of the World Cup, from June 11 to July 19. > World Cup-related markets accounted for roughly 63% of all prediction market volume during the tournament. > More than 400,000 wallets participated. > Daily volume went from around $50M during the qualifiers and pre-tournament period to $250M–$300M+ per day once the tournament started, peaking around the final. > NFTs and digital collectibles: FIFA Collect, built on Avalanche, processed around $24M in trading volume and helped roughly 100,000 fans access tickets and related experiences. FIFA generated at least $6M from secondary-market activity. > 55% of bettors were profitable. Among those profitable users, 79% already had previous experience with prediction markets. > Some markets were also much stranger than standard match outcomes. For example, the market asking whether Cristiano Ronaldo would cry generated around $49M in volume. > Illicit activity remained relatively low. Less than 1% of participating wallets, or roughly 3,700 addresses, were linked to illicit sources. Most of that activity came from a small number of sanctioned entities, including around $5.4M associated with Huobi/HTX. > Geographically, the US and China led in volume. Canada, Thailand, and the UK followed, while Australia, Brazil, Russia, and India also showed meaningful activity. Prediction markets are clearly becoming much larger and more mainstream. But I think still, regulation will remain one of the biggest barriers to how fast this market can scale from here.
