$NAT is a token created using Bitcoin block data. In this example it uses the Bits field Each generated block also creates a set of sub‑data, including total transaction volume, fees, etc. One of the data fields is called “bits”, which relates to miner difficulty adjustment to ensure a block is mined roughly every 10 minutes. As Bitcoin’s compute power grows overall, the bits field will decrease, increasing miner difficulty. Block 1 produced 486 m bits, block 700,000 produced 386 m. Those bits are then used to generate $NAT, so each block creates roughly 386 m $NAT. This means $NAT’s supply is continually increasing. $NAT represents a non‑arbitrary token, meaning the data isn’t random but logical. In this case the token derives data from relatively predictable Bitcoin block data. Most tokens are essentially arbitrary, manually created by their issuers. So why does $NAT matter? $NAT and Bitmap are the first protocols that use non‑arbitrary data to create supply, offering advantages that arbitrary tokens cannot. 🟧Predictability – Bitcoin has 15 years of data for cross‑reference, meaning $NAT supply is highly predictable and can be forecast for many years ahead. 🟧Integrity – $NAT is owned by the data, so supply cannot be manipulated. We always know the emission schedule. No token can claim this because it can be changed at any time due to its centralized nature. 🟧Incentives – $NAT provides new‑minted $NAT as rewards, incentivising miners and node operators to secure the network, giving further monetary incentives to those protecting network security. Non‑arbitrary tokens are a new standard for supply issues, and as people find new use‑cases the standard will continue to evolve over the coming months. $NAT is the first token to discover this and is considered a potential governance token for future NAT. It has an active community that is also eager to develop this new standard.
