Bank of Italy: Stablecoin has no stable advantage in cost and speed of transfers The Bank of Italy released a study showing that transferring money using stablecoin does not have a stable advantage in cost and speed compared to traditional money transfer channels. Through 200 USDC transactions across 10 payment routes between Italy and 5 other countries, the main cost comes from converting fiat currency to stablecoin, not blockchain fees. Total costs range from 0.3% to nearly 9%, and stablecoin is only cheaper than Wise in 3 out of 7 cases. They also argue that the biggest economic benefit will only appear when stablecoin can be used directly in the real economy, for example to purchase goods, services, pay rent or tuition, without needing to convert back to fiat.
