The capitalization of tokenized gold continues to grow and amounted to $5.1B at the end of February 2025. Tokenized gold, $XAUT and $PAXG grew by +73% over the past year, while Bitcoin showed the opposite result and fell by -31%. But where is most of the tokenized gold stored? I conducted an analysis and am sharing the data. The largest amount of tokenized gold is held by @tether (@tethergold). The company has made a serious focus on gold, and today $XAUT is the leader in capitalization among all tokenized gold assets. This is no coincidence. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino (@paoloardoino) explains the strategy simply: “Gold has played a central role in preserving value for centuries, particularly during periods of monetary stress and geopolitical uncertainty. Gold exposure is not a trade for Tether” — this is a long-term position. In second place is @binance with $583M, followed by infrastructure players @AntalphaGlobal and @rhinofi, as well as exchanges @bitfinex, @krakenfx, @okx, and @Bybit_Official. It is worth noting that some of the tokenized gold is stored at unidentified addresses and is not included in these data.
