    Most people still look at APY first when farming DeFi incentives. I used to do the same. But after watching enough incentive cycles, one thing becomes obvious very quickly: high APY tells you almost nothing about whether that liquidity will stay once the rewards slow down. What matters more is how expensive that TVL was to attract in the first place. And once you start looking at incentive programs through that lens, the difference between strong protocols and weak ones becomes much easier to see. Berachain is a good example. At one point TVL pushed toward 3.5B during the incentive phase. On paper that looks massive. But once the program cooled off, most of that capital disappeared. That tells you a lot of the liquidity was never really there to stay. It was there to farm emissions and leave. Arbitrum had a similar problem with LTIPP. Yields got pushed up hard during the program, but once the incentives faded, the long-term activity left behind was much smaller than people expected. Big spend, weak r
