Did some digging on Celo The previous OG chain raised $66M, from a16z, Coinbase, Polychain, so it was a project with fairly high expectations. This cycle, those watching DeFi projects should notice it; it has been receiving continuous subsidy incentives on Aave for several months. Earlier it easily had double‑digit APR, and to date the yield is still not low. I started to pay attention to this ecosystem again from here. Celo can be considered to have survived through bull and bear markets. It has been running on mainnet for about 5 years, and this round it transitioned from an L1 hard fork to become an ETH L2, joining the OP Stack camp, focusing vertically on DeFi and mobile payments. On the DeFi side, it is currently mainly concentrated on Aave and Uniswap, with 25 stablecoins (possibly related to the payment side), including USDT and USDC. On Aave it subsidizes native USDT and WETH, which belongs to a very low‑risk category. USDT borrowing even remains at negative interest rates, though few talk about it. However, the WETH pool is filled up; people who have already deposited, if they layer a few rounds of circular lending, can achieve high returns. Overall capacity is not large, because the ecosystem's TVL is still low, and we’ll see whether they will open more credit later. Mobile payments receive not much market attention, but Celo continues to work on this business, clearly positioning itself not as a generic L2. The currently promoted core application is MiniPay, which is being pushed in partnership with the veteran browser Opera, integrated into Opera Mini, supporting ultra‑low‑fee payment functionality. According to official data, this business has already far surpassed its on‑chain DeFi development, with a monthly stablecoin transaction volume of 3.2B. I haven’t used it yet, plan to try it later.
