Shorted $pippin today, a perfect finish 🤗 In the afternoon I saw a huge amount of OI for PIPPIN on aster, I checked the support and resistance levels and the main capital flow (see Figure 2), and opened a short position, now having pocketed most of the profit. I researched where to view OI on aster and other CEXs, compared several platforms, and found that coinank (Figure 3) provides the most comprehensive data; just search for it yourself to see. Additionally, I discovered that the OI displayed on aster (the Open Interest in the upper right corner of Figure 4) is double that of coinank, and learned the reasons: 1. Coinank (standard single‑side calculation): According to the traditional CEX industry standard of single‑side calculation, each long order must be matched with a short order to trade. Therefore, a display of 25M on Coinank means there are long positions worth 25M and short positions worth 25M. 2. Aster website (double‑sided nominal value calculation): Many decentralized derivatives platforms (PerpDEX) inflate their TVL (total value locked) or data panels by using double‑sided calculation. They simply add long and short positions together, e.g., 25M (long) + 25M (short) = 50M. The trading logic is similar to that on CEXs, but after stricter CEX regulation, the battlefield shifted to DEXs: 1. Burying massive OI (position building): Manipulators exploit the unrestricted nature of on‑chain platforms, aggressively opening long orders to accumulate an enormous OI position (far exceeding actual trading volume). 2. Manipulating the spot market: Since the contract's index price follows the spot price, manipulators can spend little to pump spot assets with low participation and poor liquidity, easily driving the price up. 3. Spot market leverages contracts: When the spot price rises, the contract price follows, and the massive OI position on the contract side generates huge unrealized gains.
