First: performance shouldn’t be self-reported. If an agent says it made 27% last month, that shouldn’t require trust. It should be cryptographically verifiable. Track records backed by math > screenshots.

Second: agents shouldn’t be stuck on one chain. The real opportunity is in multi-chain coordination. Imagine agents that can move across ecosystems, hedge across protocols, and automatically execute where conditions are best.

What really clicks for me, though, is composable identity. Reputation shouldn’t reset every time an agent moves. Performance history. Risk profile. Uptime. All portable. All provable.

When you combine that, verifiable history + cross-chain execution + institutional-grade automation, You start to see the foundation of something bigger. Smarter coordination. Less blind trust. More autonomous execution.

Cash is the cheat code because it’s forgetful. You can transact, settle, and vanish. No permanent trail. No global spreadsheet of your life.

And historically, the side that wins isn’t “the most righteous”, it’s the one that ends up holding the most data, for the longest time, with the best tools to mine it.

The cypherpunk dream wasn’t “speculation on the internet,” it was digital cash: private by default, usable without permission, and not silently turning into a dossier the second you interact with the system.

Bitcoin wasn’t that. Bitcoin made a different bet: radical verifiability. It put the ledger in public and called the keys “anonymous.” But public keys aren’t private; they’re usernames that never stop keeping score.

Once you touch KYC, reuse patterns, leak metadata, or just behave like a human, your “pseudonym” starts looking like a name tag. The chain becomes a map of your behaviour.

“Publicly verifiable” quietly became “publicly readable,” and we normalised a world where the default financial primitive is: broadcast your activity to the internet forever.

Then came Phase II: privacy as accessories. Mixers, CoinJoin, ring signatures, shielded pools, zk proofs, privacy DeFi wrappers.

Useful, but messy. Privacy that works only if you’re careful, only if liquidity is there, only if your counterparty behaves right, only if the UX doesn’t self-own you. It’s like wearing sunglasses in a room full of cameras, better than nothing, but you’re still in the room.

You can reveal what’s needed and nothing else. That’s the real unlock: not “hide everything,” but “share selectively, verifiably.”

Phase III is the shift: privacy becomes an operating system feature, not a browser extension. The modern toolbox (ZK, TEEs, MPC, FHE creeping up behind them) lets you keep inputs hidden, compute over encrypted state, and still prove correctness.

That means apps can keep user data encrypted end-to-end while still executing logic and producing outputs that can settle on-chain. In plain terms: you get usable smart contracts without turning users into public datasets.

And the urgency isn’t theoretical, it’s AI. Correlation engines don’t get tired. Models can fuse on-chain history with off-chain crumbs and infer the story you never told. If agents become the interface to finance, they’ll inherit every leak in the rails beneath them.

So the question isn’t “do we want privacy?” The question is: do we want the base layer of global finance to be a permanent surveillance archive, or do we ship confidentiality infrastructure (@OasisProtocol -style and beyond) before that archive becomes irreversible?
