On Secret, these incoming transfers are handled by a specific ICS-20 contract. This contract processes the transfer packets and can trigger actions like wrapping tokens into private SNIP-20 versions.
The exploit seems isolated to this Secret-side ICS-20 contract on the Axelar channel. It allowed ~$4.67M in bridged assets to be drained.
This highlights risks in cross-chain setups that sit within the application contracts handling the transfers.

🚨 FACT: The $4.7M hack hit Secret’s IBC’s “contract”, NOT @axelar’s bridge. Axelar’s quick firewalling feature paused new tokens to Secret,(no human was needed), which capped losses.
