I keep hitting the same frustrating wall with AI in crypto: you finally get an assistant to understand you, your trading style, your risk limits, your signals, then the moment you switch tools, it forgets everything.

The trading version of this is brutal. You spend an evening with Claude mapping out a strategy: what you trade, how you size, where you cut, what invalidates the setup, what indicators you trust, what you ignore.

Next day the market moves, you’re ready to execute, but Claude is rate-limited / overloaded / you’re on another platform. So you open ChatGPT, and you’re back explaining the entire system while the opportunity dies in real time.

And it’s not just trading. Devs lose flow switching between coding assistants. Analysts keep copy-pasting context into new chats. Normal users repeat preferences endlessly. The annoying part isn’t that the AI isn’t smart, it’s that the “you” inside the AI doesn’t persist.

Meanwhile, the demand is obvious. @coingecko found 87.1% of surveyed participants were willing to let AI agents manage at least 10% of their crypto portfolio, which tells you people want this, they just don’t have infrastructure they can trust and carry between tools.

The real requirement isn’t “AI that remembers everything.”

That’s creepy and not even useful. What we actually need is portable, user‑owned memory: the ability to keep a personal context layer that’s private by default, permissioned, and can plug into whatever model/app you’re using today.

Here’s the hard part people skip: memory isn’t just “stored data.” It’s data being used, searched, summarised, embedded, and retrieved, often in sensitive contexts.

So “just encrypt it” isn’t enough; you need a way to compute on it without exposing it to whoever runs the servers.

That’s basically the design space @OasisProtocol Sapphire is aiming at: an EVM running inside a TEE where transaction inputs/outputs and contract state can be hidden from node operators because enclave memory is encrypted.

And then there’s an even more practical angle: a lot of “memory work” is heavy/off-chain, indexing, retrieval, routing, updating.

@OasisProtocol has been pushing ROFL for exactly that kind of thing: apps running on Oasis nodes inside a TEE, managed through Sapphire.

In other words: private off‑chain logic + on‑chain verification hooks, which are the kind of building block you’d want if “portable AI memory” is going to be real, not just a marketing feature.
